Ontario Product Safety Regulation 438/07 Postponed.
Responding to industry concerns regarding the proposed manufacturer registration system, the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) of Ontario has decided to postpone the August 30, 2009 deadline for the registration program until further notice.
As QPS customers were notified earlier this year, the new regulation means that all manufacturers selling electrical products in Ontario are required to register with ESA at a cost of $350, with an annual renewal fee of $300.
We encourage our customers to visit the ESA website, as several documents related to the subject matter are being revised.

| New safety regulations for electrical products sold in Ontario, Canada
|
The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) of Ontario has asked QPS (and all other certification and field evaluation bodies recognized by ESA) to make customers aware of the new “Product Safety Regulation 438/07” adopted by the Government of Ontario.
The new Regulation is primarily designed to enhance the safety of Ontario consumers by creating a system to ensure that ESA is made aware of electrical products posing a danger. To this end, on January 13, 2009, ESA announced new mandatory obligations for manufacturers, wholesalers, product importers, distributors, retailers, certification organizations and field evaluation bodies regarding the safety of electrical products sold and used in Ontario.
In addition to the reporting requirements of any serious electrical incidents to ESA and the related assistance in investigations, corrective actions and notification to the public as may be necessary, it is also required that manufacturers (as defined by ESA) of electrical equipment register with ESA beginning April 1, 2009. The registration deadline is August 30, 2009.
Manufacturers are requested to visit www.esasafe.com "Electrical Product Safety" section for specific information and details on how to register. The website also contains Q&A documents that help to understand the regulations and the specific responsibilities of stakeholders.
We encourage our customers to visit the ESA website and we remain fully committed to providing you with any assistance we can in this regard.
